A study of the old fishing grounds in Reykjavík, Iceland. Fiskihjallarnir við Ægisíðu. Memories and photos collected from my visit still continue to inspire and trigger a quiet, reflective wonder.
A series of commissioned landscape drawings of beautiful locations in the Slieve Bloom Mountains, County Laois, Ireland. Each piece began as a pastel sketch on location. A larger, more detailed version was then completed in the studio with additional photographic references.

Displacement remains a universal issue. Every day, people are forced to leave their homes due to civil unrest, environmental disasters and war. During Sally’s studies in Children Book Illustration, she began to investigate the ways in which illustrated narratives have the potential to inform viewers of all ages about difficult subject matters and encourage them to emotionally engage with events they have not directly experienced.
“I was moved and inspired by the stories of the displaced people living in Kakuma Refugee camp and the nearby Kalobeyei Integrated Settlement. Located in the north-western region of Kenya, thousands of registered refugees and asylum-seekers from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds live together. Over the years, those living in the camp have transformed the previously arid and desolate land, into a vibrant, thriving town and have set-up shops, cafes and schools. I felt it was important to convey the vibrancy of the camp but also reinforce the difficult reality of displacement as many wait to be resettled in a new country, or wait to return home when it is safe enough.”
Sally’s artwork also features on the cover of Alexander Bett’s book ‘The Wealth of Refugees: How Displaced People Can Build Economies’, published by Oxford University Press.
